Acetone identity and procurement scope

Acetone is also called 2-propanone or dimethyl ketone; its CAS number is 67-64-1. Match this identity to the actual product name and grade in the supplier documents. A shared CAS number does not establish equal impurity limits, packaging or suitability for an approved process.

Start with one of three tasks: purchasing a specified industrial raw material, evaluating a cleaning product, or comparing a replacement for an existing product. Keep these inquiries separate. Describe the actual manufacturing stage rather than assuming that every company in an industry buys the same solvent.

Compare specifications before comparing purity

Record the product code, grade, document issuer and revision, test method, unit and meaning of each number. A specification limit is not a measured batch result. Request water, non-volatile residue and any other agreed acceptance items separately; an empty field must not be interpreted as zero.

INEOS Phenol describes its standard acetone purity as 99.9% with the qualification without water. Preserve that qualification and ask the issuer about the calculation basis; do not reinterpret it as proof that a delivered batch contains no water.

Sigma-Aldrich product 179124 separately lists ACS reagent grade, an assay minimum of 99.5% and a water maximum of 0.5%. These are conditions for that particular catalogue product, not universal industrial acetone requirements.

These examples are not a brand ranking, an agency claim or Qiaomao specifications. Compare the proposed product against your approved requirements, then match its CoA to the actual batch. Retain original limits, units and notes when translating the documents.

Industrial cleaning and replacement selection

For a cleaning inquiry, identify the residue to remove, all materials that will contact the liquid, the equipment restrictions and the required result after cleaning. Include coatings, plastics, seals and bonded parts that must remain intact. Do not send a confidential formulation when a task description and approved specification are sufficient.

For a replacement inquiry, name the current product and explain what must change: a documentation gap, material compatibility concern or an approved procurement requirement. Similar cleaning performance in one setting does not establish the same material compatibility or suitability elsewhere. A mixture containing acetone must be assessed as its own product, using its own documents.

Packaging and net quantity

Keep package count, net quantity per package and total net quantity in separate fields. State the unit next to every number. A container capacity is not a confirmed fill quantity, and a gross weight includes more than the product itself.

Can an acetone-containing cleaner replace pure acetone?

Not automatically. A formulated cleaner is a separate product. Its suitability depends on the approved task, materials, equipment, downstream acceptance criteria and product safety documentation.

Is a drum count enough to request a comparable quotation?

No. Include the net quantity per package and total net quantity with units, as well as the destination and included cost items. Do not treat container capacity, gross weight and product net quantity as interchangeable.
